A total solar eclipse happens when the moon passes directly in front of the sun, blocking all light. For a few seconds — 76 in Ibiza — day becomes night. Stars appear. The temperature drops. Animals go silent. And the sun's corona, its outer atmosphere, glows around the moon like a ring of fire.
Most people will never see a total solar eclipse in their lifetime. On August 12, 2026, Ibiza is one of the few places on Earth where it will happen.
Eye safety — please read
Never look directly at the sun.
Use only ISO 12312-2 certified eclipse glasses. Regular sunglasses are not safe, even the darkest ones. Buy them before you travel — they'll be sold out on the island by August.

The eclipse path crosses all of Spain. But Ibiza is different. The sun will be just 4 degrees above the horizon at totality — setting over the open Mediterranean. No city. No buildings. Just the darkened sky, the sea, and the corona.
The view
Eclipse over the sea
The sun will set into totality over open water. No obstructions. The corona will be visible against the darkening Mediterranean sky.
The place
Busiest day of the year here
Peak summer, full moon night, and now a total solar eclipse. The island will have more people than ever — and most of them won't have planned ahead. You should.
The timing
First time since 1905
Spain hasn't seen a total solar eclipse in 121 years. The next one won't arrive until 2027 — and it won't cross Ibiza.
The most magnetic place on Earth
A limestone rock rising 382 meters from the sea off the southwest coast of Ibiza. Uninhabited. Protected. And according to locals, sailors, and scientists alike — one of the most magnetically charged points on the planet.
Compasses are said to fail near it. Lights have been reported above it for centuries. The Phoenicians considered it sacred. Mythology connects it to Atlantis.
On eclipse day, the sky above it goes dark. We'll let you decide what that means.

The rock that inspired an album
In 1996, Mike Oldfield chose Es Vedrà as the backdrop for his album Voyager.
He was so taken by the island that he bought a house in Ibiza with sea views while recording it — and named it Atlantis. Not a coincidence.
Some places just do that to people. Es Vedrà has appeared in films, on liquor bottles, and in the dreams of anyone who's ever stood in front of it at sunset.
Hotels near the eclipse path are filling up fast. The window to plan well is now — not in July.
Hotels with sea views are the first to go. Book now and you'll have options. Wait until summer and you won't.
Most hotels won't let you book just the eclipse night. Plan for at least three days around it — you'll want the time anyway.
ISO 12312-2 certified. Buy them before you travel. They will be sold out everywhere on the island by August.
Don't know where to begin? That's what we're here for.

Most people who visit Ibiza never see the real one. The walled old town that's been standing since 654 BC. The salt flats where flamingos nest in August. The sea so clear you can see the bottom from 20 meters up.
We built IBIZA the Place to change that. A guide for people who want more than a sun lounger and a DJ set — and who know the difference between a good trip and a great one.
